Dissidia Final Fantasy has been released in Japan as an arcade-only title for a full year. Our wait for the console version may be delayed a little longer than we would like.
An interview with Producer Ichiro Hazama and Director Takeo Kujiraoka in Weekly has revealed that the game is not ready for any sort of reveal yet.
The good news is: the arcade version is not driven by a board you’d expect to see inside a cabinet. It’s run by a board resembling that of what is at the heart of the PS4. This should, in theory, hasten the process of porting the game. Also: many fans have asked for a story mode, and the cries have not gone unheard. Hazama-san confirmed that a story mode is in the works, but that it requires a little more TLC to meet their standards. I suppose that if we expect a story mode, we should expect any delays that come along with crafting it.
